This site is for anyone who wants to offer better customer service or a more pleasant and satisfying working environment. Visitors and staff come from many different backgrounds. Understand more about those backgrounds and life becomes much easier for everyone. Imagine an iceberg. Only the tip is visible with the rest hidden below the water. This is similar to most people. Only a small part of who we are is on show. We can see how people act and hear what they say. We often misunderstand. This is because what people do and say is based on hidden values, assumptions, beliefs, traditions and backgrounds hidden just under the surface. Without seeing all these more and more misunderstandings happen. There are sections on welcoming specific nationalities such as Chinese visitors, as well as sections on faiths such as understanding Islam that might help you to provide a better working environment for colleagues. This site doesn't cover every faith, community or country but is hopefully a step in the right direction. It offers insights into the main faiths and the cultures of some of our newer visitors. There's a strong business case for working with people from different backgrounds. It's also probably easier than you think - we've got plenty of advice for you. |
